Memories From School: Dealing With An Atheist Teacher

Temple Spire.jpg

I once dealt with an atheist professor back in high school. Ironically, his jeers towards God strengthened my faith by making me ponder things I hadn’t before.

LOL This pic has nothing to do with school. But here you go! It’s another shot of the San Antonio Temple. Beautiful, ne?

I’m not sure exactly why I felt I should write about this. Or really, why I even remembered it. Something brought it back to my mind, something about recent events, I guess. Either way, I started remembering a certain art teacher I had back in high school (and I won’t say who). But this guy was a total punk. I actually thought he was amusing. He was quite the character. Only downside was that he was an outspoken atheist.

The Power Of Prayer: Who’s Really In Control?

Bright Red Flowers

I’ve come to believe that God lets us have more control over our destinies than we realize. An entire civilization was built on the power of prayer. Was all of that really planned in advance?

Alrighty, time to talk about something that’s been on my mind for a while now. A couple weeks ago, we had an amazing lesson at church that talked about the power of prayer. I learned some things during that lesson that have really changed how I see prayer as a whole. So I figured it was about time I talked about them here.

Being the nonstop thinker that I am (I can’t stop!!!), I often ponder gospel topics just for fun, because I like learning new things, especially when they have eternal worth. This has often resulted in me having questions that other people don’t often have answers to. So I’m always having to listen and study and try to find those little jewels of knowledge, to continue building on what I already know.

Ever Wonder What Mormons Really Believe?

Pretty Pond Full View

Now’s your chance to ask a real one! And none of your friends will find out. 😉

Since it’s been on my mind, I figured I’d write this to my Christian friends, because the few people who know we exist seem to know nothing about our beliefs, just that we’re somehow “not Christian.” So, after doing my reading this morning, I figured I’d put this out for all my friends to read, so that you can get informed from someone who actually believes and practices it actively, without getting yelled at by your pastor/bishop/parents/teacher for it.

So, I was thinking about how to go about this, and this morning, I figured it out. Listed below, I’ve got the Articles of Faith, which is just a quick list of 13 basic points that summarize everything we believe in the LDS Church. It sums it all up really well, and everything else we talk about is just details. It all comes back to this, by the end of the day. Like the Bill of Rights to our Constitution, so are the Articles of Faith to the LDS Church. But, since some points might be a little unclear, I’ll just add some notes of my own to elaborate.

So, if you ever wanted a quick summary of our beliefs, just to finally get informed on that group you know next-to-nothing about, here you go! Satisfy your curiosity. And don’t worry; I won’t tell anyone. XD

Why I Believe Animals Have Souls

One Lazy Cat

Gonna try something a little different today. I dunno why, but as I thought about what to write this morning, my gaze kept coming back to this fluffy squatter here. Look at him, all flopped out and twisted the wrong way on my sheets (how does he do that???) Meet Jet, the unpredictable feline who my sister has taken to calling “The Devil’s Cuteness.”

Jet Mug Shot.jpg

Yes, this punk caused us a lot of trouble from day one. We adopted him about 10 years ago, and he was the runt of a rescued litter – or so we thought. Turns out he was just malnourished from being left sick and untreated in a lousy Petsmart (check your adoptions carefully!) But we picked him anyway, cuz he was fluffy and adorable and who could resist that face? Especially when he was a kitten. See, his ears have always been that size. So when he was a kitten, he looked like a bat. Had to grow into his own ears. Just imagine. XD

We nourished him back to health, our little rescue kitty, and he went from being a cute, mellow kitten to a hyper, out-of-control, bite-you-up. It sucks, too, cuz he has the softest coat in the world, but good luck petting him if he’s not up for it. Which got pretty ugly more than once. We almost sent him back to the shelter on more than one occasion, he was so hard to deal with. I do love him, tho. And he has mellowed out a lot over the past few years. I think he’s gotten too old for his own antics or something. XD

Why am I talking about him here? Well, believe it or not, this cat – troublemaker though he was – ended up redeeming himself a few years ago. I believe it’s because of him that I was able to save family ties when things got ugly. And, he taught me something new about animals that made me wonder how I ever believed they didn’t have souls.

In Plain Sight: On God And The Hidden Rainbow

Pretty Pond Side.jpg

And the Internet cheers! “Yay! She’s back!” LOL Here, have a picture of a pond. Has nothing to do with my topic, but it’s pretty! XD

Well, it’s sure been a while since I posted something, hasn’t it? I dunno, y’all. It’s just been hard to pull something specific from my daily readings lately. I think it’s because I’m reading them differently now. Lately I haven’t felt as spiritually nourished as I used to, so I stopped reading for facts and just tried to take in the comfort the scriptures have to offer.

It makes it harder to think of posts, but I feel better. And boy, have I needed that lately. All sorts of things keep popping up in the shadows to haunt me these past few weeks. And job-hunting too. Job-hunting is a drain. Least I’m getting the hang of it now. -_-

Regardless, as I was thinking about what to post today, I started looking through all my saved-up photos, sifting through old memories and all. As I did, I stumbled upon this old beauty…
